Boston and New England Rose of Tralee
About Our Center
For many years, participating in the Rose of Tralee has been a tremendously enriching experience for young women of Irish background, not just in the United States, but in many other parts of the world. The festival is a bridge between Ireland and its diaspora, bringing excitement and fun to the town of Tralee every summer. Through the medium of television and social media, the whole of Ireland shares in the unique atmosphere.
The Boston and New England Center's history dates back to 1960, the second year of the Festival of Kerry. Since, 1960, two Boston Roses have been selected as the Rose of Tralee. In 1963, the late Geraldine Fitzgerald was selected as the fifth Rose of Tralee, and in 1985, Helena Rafferty was selected as the 26th Rose of Tralee.
The Boston and New England Center mirrors a changing Ireland. Every year, Boston has a selection to choose a young woman, with Irish heritage, to represent the Boston and New England region. The young women who are selected to represent Boston and New England, in Ireland, are intelligent, charismatic, talented, and motivated young women. They come from all over New England and have a history of representing us with poise and grace and have upheld our reputation for elegance and intellect.
This year's selection will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2017.
