I recall, quite clearly, my name being announced one short year ago. Since then, it has been a whirlwind. Traveling to Ireland was incredible memorable, especially as it was my first trip! Hearing the Rose of Tralee song in the heart of Tralee brought me back to my grandparents kitchen. I could hear my Papa singing the tune and dreaming of his grandchildren serving as a Rose. While he could not accompany me in Ireland, I was sure to represent his "Powers" pride in the festivities.
The Rose of Tralee was such an incredible celebration of Irish culture and heritage, especially honoring ladies with poise and class. Meeting women from around the globe, all with the same roots, emphasized the importance of our global community. I feel I have a better understanding of relating to others, finding things in common, and celebrating our shared humanity. After meeting these women and learning about their accomplishments and potential, I have faith in our future.
I will admit, this year did not come without its challenges. My beloved Nonna passed away from stage 4 lung cancer shortly after my return from Ireland. She was an incredible role model, serving as my inspiration. I have worked to follow in her example, spreading love. The Rose has allowed me to practice this, while still supporting the universal mission.
While I am sad to pass on my title as the 2016 Boston & New England Rose, I was blessed to enjoy this year. I am excited for the great potential with the Rose of Tralee and wish the best of luck to our 2017 Rose. Sending love! XO
